It’s sad that America is stepping backwards. We should embrace more open door policies, not closing more doors. It does both Cuban and American people much more harm than good.

I’m not from the US so this doesn’t affect me, but planning a trip to Cuba can be complicated and overwhelming in and of itself, it’s a pity that things are just a little harder now.

Trump’s policy change does not change my plans as I had made arrangements and purchases prior to this announcement. I believe this reversal only hurts the Cuban people who are trying to make a life for themselves. My plan was to intermingle with the natives, learn about the culture and eat home-cooked cuban meals. I never planned to stay in a hotel as I had booked a private home through Airbnb prior to the announcement. I looked into group travel initially when the Obama administration announced the changes, but paying $3-5,000 for a week was absolutely ridiculous and expensive.

I’m glad that I acted prior to this new administrations action to turn back the clock of history. One positive thing is that I hold dual citizenship and passports, and I am still free to travel to Cuba without restriction.

In reply to Rose. I definitely agree that his new rules will make it harder for individual travelers to travel to Cuba and more expensive since only group people-to-people travel is now authorized. I also think the rules will have the opposite intended effect and will negatively impact the Cuban people. Most individual travelers stay at casas or Airbnbs, eat at private paladars owned by Cubans, and use local tour guides and drivers, thereby putting needed funds into the hands of Cuban people. By contrast, the group tours tend to stay at hotels and use facilities coordinated by the Cuban government. The entire situation is unfortunate.

I think it shows what a weak, little asshole Trump is. He so badly wants to change everything Obama, that he tweets a word or two and acts like he’s done some grand thing. All he’s done is make it harder for American families to travel. He’s an asshole.
